St Andrews and Bonn commit to shared vision for medical education and research
The School of Medicine hosted a visit from the University of Bonn Faculty of Medicine on 2 December 2024, marking a significant step forward in their growing partnership.
The day began with a plenary session, offering an overview of the collaboration, funding opportunities, and areas for synergistic development. Updates were shared on current collaborative themes, including surgery and orthopedics, education and primary care, digital health, and cardiovascular research. The afternoon session featured breakout discussions focused on specific projects and setting short-term plans alongside long-term ambitions. Topics included streamlining administrative processes for co-supervised students, increasing the number of joint PhD and MSc opportunities, and establishing mechanisms for data sharing. Participants also explored joint strategies for incorporating AI in education and expanding collaborations in infection research, a strategic priority for both institutions.
A key highlight of the day was the signing of a shared Vision Statement between both Faculties of Medicine, reaffirming the commitment of both universities to their institution-wide Strategic Partnership.
In addition to advancing existing projects, the event provided a platform to consolidate friendships and energise the partnership, fostering a strong foundation for future success.
