The School of Medicine is delighted to celebrate more outstanding achievements by colleagues at the 1413 Teaching Excellence Awards, held by the University of St Andrews in partnership with the Students’ Association. The annual awards recognise exceptional commitment, creativity and impact in teaching and learning across the University.

This year, Dr Sarah Mills received an Inclusive Teaching Award in recognition of her Disability in Society contribution to MD2002, highlighted by students for its thoughtful design and meaningful engagement with inclusive practice. This is in addition to the previously reported award to Dr Alun Hughes for Outstanding Teacher (Science and Medicine).

The School of Medicine also extends congratulations to Dr Angela Flynn, who was a finalist in the Enterprising Education Award for the Agents of Change programme. The initiative was recognised for empowering students to develop innovation, leadership and real-world problem-solving skills alongside their academic studies. Also, Linda Kirkcaldy, Curriculum Support Group Lead, was nominated in the Outstanding Professional Services Staff Member category.

Commenting on the School’s success, Dr Rachel Davies, Director of Teaching, said:

“These awards and nominations are a wonderful testament to the passion, creativity and care our colleagues bring to teaching every day. To see excellence recognised across inclusive education, student-focused teaching and enterprising practice speaks volumes about the strength and diversity of our educational culture in the School of Medicine. I’m very proud of everyone involved.”

The 1413 Teaching Excellence Awards place strong emphasis on the student voice, with several categories shaped by student nominations and award selection panels. The School’s successes this year reflect a collaborative commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments, inspiring teaching and innovative educational approaches.

Congratulations to the award winners and nominees.
