Launch of the Arclight Holo Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscope (BIO)
The Arclight Project are proud to announce the launch of the Arclight Holo binocular indirect ophthalmoscope (BIO), a truly portable, solar-powered, and affordable alternative to traditional BIOs. Developed over a decade of research and testing, the Holo BIO is designed to improve access to high-quality retinal and anterior segment examinations in all healthcare settings, particularly in low-resource environments.
Weighing just 97g, the Holo BIO is compact and easy to use, offering widefield retinal examination, detailed disc and macula assessment, anterior segment evaluation, and fundal red reflex testing. It features five levels of LED illumination, a Maglens for enhanced magnification, and a teaching mirror for training and education. Its solar and USB-C charging capabilities eliminate reliance on disposable batteries, making it a sustainable choice for eye care professionals worldwide.
The Holo BIO has been rigorously tested in the UK, Kenya, and Indonesia, with research showing it performs comparably to traditional BIOs while offering superior portability, ease of use, and accessibility. Future developments include the integration of a camera attachment to capture and document retinal images.
The Arclight Holo BIO is now available to purchase, further advancing the mission of delivering high-quality, affordable eye care worldwide.
