This page provides information and links to a number of the Academic staff that we have working here in the School of Medicine, with information about their areas of expertise and research interests too.
As with all jobs and roles in life, having the right people around you as teachers, mentors, colleagues and support networks can be pivotal. When it comes to Academia, this is no different. It can be extremely important to find the right supervisor for an academic qualification, especially when undertaking a PhD, which can take anywhere from 3-7 years depending on whether you’re working on it full-time or part-time.
CATCH also emphasise the importance of choosing the right supervisor, and the influence that this can have in navigating a path for your future – providing vast insight into the considerations that you should make when making this decision. In collaboration with, and adapting resources created by INCEPT, they highlight the need to consider ‘the 3Ps’:
When starting research, you may hear about the “3 Ps” that can often determine the success of a project:
- Person – your experience, interests and motivation
- Project – the research itself: is it novel, interesting and achievable?
- Place – the research environment, including your supervisor, team and available resources
Below we list a number of the research and teaching staff here in the School that may be open to supervising Postgraduate research projects, and a few ideas as to their primary research areas of interest. However, this is not an exhaustive list, so for a full list of current staff members in the School of Medicine, follow this link!
