Arun Decano

My research background spans medical microbiology, genomics and bioinformatics. I did my BS Biology degree in the Philippines,  took my MSc in Medical Microbiology at Chungbuk National University, South Korea and finished my PhD in Infection Genomics at Dublin City University, Ireland. I am currently working as a Genome data analyst and Implementation scientist for HATUA consortium at the School of Medicine, University of St. Andrews.

My current role allows me to decode the socio-biological factors that drive the epidemic of antimicrobial resistance among bacterial strains in East African countries. As an implementation scientist, I strive to develop better approaches in pathogen surveillance by combining my expertise with collaborators from diverse fields of study such as anthropology, sociology, geography and statistics.
