School of Medicine facilities
Access and security
This building is home to delicate research equipment and a mortuary, hence security is important. There is a detailed building security policy however the main doors are open from 9am until 5pm on weekdays or at additional hours by prior agreement. All users should note the CCTV is present in the building. The janitor is contactable for all security and access questions on ext. 1853.
Disabled access
The main door at the front of the school is electric / sliding. There is a passenger lift with access to all floors located by the main stairs. In event of emergency there are evacuation chairs located in the 3 fire-escape stairwells.
Multi Faith prayer rooms
The University is fully supportive of staff and students of all faiths, or none. The University provides dedicated multi-faith prayer rooms in Mansefield and Agnes Blackadder Hall on the North Haugh. Details of the Chaplaincy facilities and services offered by the Chaplaincy can be found on their website.
Baby changing and breast feeding
There are baby changing facilities in 6 dedicated toilets, all of which are located in the main toilet areas. There is a breast feeding room equipped with a fridge on the ground floor just behind the cafe.
Cafe
On the ground floor. Opening times and menu published locally.
No smoking policy
This School of Medicine should be seen to be portraying the highest standards of public health awareness, akin to an NHS establishment. The issue is compounded as there is (deliberately) no forced ventilation so those who wish fresh air in their offices or tutorial rooms need to open their windows. These two factors dictate a no smoking area round the building.
To that end there will be a no-smoking zone round the outside of the building, including the courtyards. Smokers can use the smoking area by the back of Physics or the Gateway car park.
Signs are posted to indicate ‘No smoking within 10m of the building’ and ‘no smoking in the courtyard.’
Material and waste policy
Recycling bays are located on all floors of the building, information explaining the correct use of these and a plan showing the location of these is to be provided. A bulk recycling store is located to the South East of the building at the entrance to the courtyard. This contains bins for various glass, cardboard, paper and waste electrical equipment. A wide variety of recycle bins is provided at the reception end of the café area.
Safety policy
First aid
The School’s first aid policy makes provision for all users of the building during term time. Local first aid notices will be produced for each sector of the building to direct the reader to the nearest first aider.
Fire safety
Fire safety notices are placed round the building. The Fire Systems document describes the usage of the auto safety systems. There is a map of fire extinguisher locations for use by contractors.
