VR-CoDES Research Seminar
Professor Gerry Humphris and Dr Yuefang Zhou participated in a two-day research seminar at the University of Verona, 28 – 29 June 2016. This seminar involved discussions about a conceptual framework for an important behavioural coding scheme (The Verona Coding Definitions of Emotional Sequences: the VR-CoDES http://www.each.eu/research/r-activities/sigs/verona-coding-system/). Since its development in 2010, the VR-CoDES system has assisted many researchers across the world to study emotional topics in healthcare communication (over 30+ publications). This system has had significant impact on clinical communication skills training with trainers examining how to introduce the specialised response system into their curricula. Professor Humphris and Dr Zhou were the participants representing the UK, among five members from Portugal, Norway, Italy and Sweden. This research team contributed to the conceptual and theoretical framework underpinning the development of this coding system. Following this discussion, Professor Humphris and Dr Zhou are involved in manuscript preparation with an aim for publication at the end of 2016.
