Anterior Segment Examination Research
Anterior Segment Eye Disease
Colleagues in Uganda have recently completed a study comparing the anterior segment loupe of the Arclight with a hand held slit lamp. No difference in diagnostic accuracy or time to diagnosis was found amongst a group of clinical officers who preferred the Arclight for its low cost, portability and ease of use.
Trachoma
To help field graders in evaluating active trachoma a thumbnail sticker has also been developed to be used in conjunction with the Arclight or Alice head torch. This allows graders to decide more consistently after training when ‘in-service’ if antibiotics are necessary when assessing children.
