Medical Student Teaching in Ophthalmology

Ensuring our future doctors are comprehensively trained despite the COVID-19 pandemic

COVID-19 has reduced medical student exposure to patients. Riskier specialties such as ophthalmology have been particularly hard hit. We have overcome the limitations imposed by pandemic mitigation measures by exploiting the unique features of both the Arclight device and the SIMulation tools. The students at the University of St Andrews in both the undergraduate and post-graduate ScotGEM courses have still enjoyed a comprehensive programme of ophthalmic education from assessing visual acuity to performing direct ophthalmoscopy in a safe and secure way.
