12th Dec 17 – Second round of ScotGEM applications
The Scottish Government announced on 11 December 2017 that they will fully fund an additional 15 places on the courses, starting with the 2018 intake (increasing student numbers from 40 to 55). The same terms apply and all students on the ScotGEM course will be offered a “return of service” bursary, a grant worth up to £16,000, in exchange for working in NHS Scotland for up to four years.
Second round applications to ScotGEM (2018 entry) can be made via UCAS from AFTER January 16th until 18th March 2018. Interviews will be held on 20th June and decisions on applications will be made in early July. Applicants should pay attention to all the entry requirements as these must be achievable by August 2018.
The admission requirements remain the same and include the Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT) (https://gamsat.acer.org/) and the UKCAT Situational Judgement Test for Admission to Clinical Education (SJTace) (https://www.ukcat.ac.uk/sjtace/).
Regarding GAMSAT, we will accept results from the sittings in March 2018, all those in 2017 and September 2016. Registration for the March 2018 sitting of the GAMSAT closes on 2nd February 2018.
SJTace test dates will be available in April 2018 (dates to be confirmed). We will accept results from that sitting as well as the results of the SJT component of the 2017 UK Clinical Aptitude Test.
Full details of the course, the funding and bursary arrangements and the entry requirements remain the same and are available on the ScotGEM website (https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/subjects/medicine/scotgem-mbchb/).
