Meet the newest NES GP Fellows: Lloyd Hughes
Lloyd Hughes, a GP working in Arbroath and the Tayside Out of Hours Service, is joining the St. Andrews School of Medicine as one of the newest NES GP Fellows.
Lloyd graduated from the University of Dundee and completed his foundation training in Tayside before moving to complete a geriatric medicine fellowship in Edinburgh and finally completing his GP training in Fife in 2020. The geriatric fellowship proved to be rewarding as Lloyd developed his research into the area of multimorbidity and during his time in Dundee looked at targeted treatment for multimorbidity within the geriatric setting.
Currently, Lloyd is working toward completing his PhD looking at health management and service delivery for individuals with multimorbidity. His plan for his NES GP Fellowship is to continue this work in hopes to achieve his PhD alongside developing further research areas in health service delivery. This area of focus was inspired by challenges of COVID-19 in general practice and wanted to dig into how GPs feel about the various changes that were made to service delivery during this time. Lloyd will be working with Frank Sullivan, the Director of Research within the School of Medicine, on this area to finish his PhD thesis.
For Lloyd, this NES GP Fellowship will provide him with the opportunity to develop his research skills in hopes of one day becoming a medical director managing service delivery. Over the next year, Lloyd is most looking forward to getting to the St. Andrews campus and networking with likeminded people as he works towards his PhD.
