Students and staff from across the School of Medicine gathered on Friday 12 June for the School of Medicine Postgraduate Research (PGR) Conference 2026, an annual event celebrating the outstanding research being undertaken by postgraduate researchers across the School.

The conference provided an opportunity for postgraduate researchers to share their work with colleagues, presenting a diverse programme of oral and poster presentations that showcased the breadth, quality and impact of research taking place within the School. The exceptionally high standard of submissions highlighted the strength of the postgraduate research community and made the judging process particularly challenging.

In addition to the research presentations, attendees enjoyed the return of the popular University Challenge session, hosted by Professor David Harrison. The event also featured engaging discussions on key aspects of the research environment, including Research Culture, led by Dawn Cremonese, and Public and Patient Involvement in research, presented by Charlie Guy.

The conference fostered opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration and professional development, bringing together researchers from a wide range of disciplines and research interests.

Congratulations to all presenters and prize winners for their excellent contributions:

First year talks winner: Rebecca Stout

Runner-up: Lucy Wayne

Second year posters winner: Mark Kelly

Runner-up: Keira Hughes

Final year talks winner: Richard Edel

Runner-up: Sepideh Benvari

The School would also like to thank everyone involved in organising and supporting the event, helping to make the conference a successful, informative and enjoyable occasion.

The School of Medicine PGR Conference continues to play an important role in recognising postgraduate research achievements and strengthening the School’s vibrant research community.
