CEVH delivers evidence-based medicine masterclass for MSPs

As part of its ongoing commitment to public engagement and supporting evidence-informed policymaking, the Centre for Evidence and Values in Healthcare (CEVH) recently hosted an online seminar, A Mini-Masterclass: Evidence-Based Medicine, for Members of the Scottish Parliament and their teams.

The 50-minute educational session was jointly delivered by Dr Margaret McCartney, Senior Lecturer and Director of CEVH, and Professor Peter Donnelly, Professor of Public Health Medicine. Designed specifically for newly elected MSPs and their staff, the seminar aimed to provide a practical introduction to the principles of evidence-based medicine and equip participants with knowledge that can support informed decision-making in their parliamentary roles.

The masterclass forms part of CEVH’s wider commitment to engaging with policymakers and helping to ensure that health policy is informed by the best available evidence.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. One participant commented:

“It was pitched exactly at the right level, the presentations were engaging and thought-provoking, and the length of the session just right. Certainly left with lots to think about.”

By sharing expertise beyond academia, CEVH continues to strengthen connections between research, policy and practice, supporting decision-makers in applying evidence to improve health outcomes.
