SDRs

GRADEs policy brief on the annual issuance of SDRs informed the G20 in South Africa in November 2025.

One of the recommendations of the Think20, (T20, which is the “engagement group” that supports the G20 by producing evidence‑based policy proposals) was that the G20 should facilitate an overhaul of the IMFs governance models and transform SDRs to become a central pillar of the global financial safety net. (Taskforce 3, Reccomendation 1, page 31)

The final G20 Leaders Declaration stated that “We acknowledge the importance of realignment in [SDR] quota shares to better reflect members’ relative positions in the world economy while protecting the quota shares of the poorest members”(para 56)
