Biography
Dom is based in Computational Biology Division in School of Life Sciences in the University of Dundee in the lab of Prof. Ulrich Zachariae.
His work is focused on antimicrobial resistance and development of antibiotics.
He uses large datasets of compounds with associated antimicrobial activity to extract permeation patterns. Which are then used to train machine learning algorithms, to be able to predict similar permeation in other molecules.
Chemoinformatic techniques such as matched pair analysis, molecular similarity calculations, physicochemical feature calculations and in-house developed functional group analysis are used to detect structural determinants that lead to permeation. Which will allow to predict possible new antimicrobial molecules more accurately and faster than conventional drug development. As well as allow to carry out alterations to existing drugs, in order to increase Gram-negative activity or avoid existing resistance pathways in pathogenic bacteria.
