Congratulations to 2024 BSc (Hons) Medicine graduates Bhargavi Desai and Neil MacPherson, recipients of the 2023/24 Wolfson Foundation Intercalated Degree Award! Administered by the Royal College of Physicians, this award supports outstanding undergraduate students who are likely to pursue a medical research career in their intercalated year. Winners received a £5,000 grant.

Bhargavi and Neil, who were selected in August 2023, submitted their project reports to the Foundation and received their award certificates last month. Their projects were entitled, ‘What is the Role of Mitsugumin-23 in Doxorubicin-Induced Calcium Dyshomeostasis in Cardiomyocytes?’ (Bhargavi) and ‘Does leucine-rich repeat containing 15 (LRRC15) contribute to the tumour phenotypes of melanoma cells?’ (Neil). Thank you to their respective supervisors, Lecturer Dr Morag Mansley and Dr Paul Reynolds, for their support of these projects.
