The School of Medicine is delighted to announce its new rankings as the second and third best medical school in UK respectively by the National Student Survey 2023 and the Guardian University Guide 2024.

These results see the School retain its 2022 NSS position and progress from its fifth-place ranking in the Guardian’s 2023 league table.

Across the 26 questions featured in the NSS, covering teaching quality, assessment and feedback, mental health support, and facilities, the School received an average “positivity score” of 87.5%.

The School’s Guardian ranking is based on the strength of student satisfaction, expenditure per student, student/staff ratio, career prospects, entry tariff, value-added and continuation.

These results reflect the School’s continued success in providing a first-class experience for students, both academically and through the extensive support they receive at St Andrews. They also accompany the University’s retention of the top spot in both the NSS and the Guardian University Guide.

In an email to staff announcing the School’s results, Dean of Medicine Professor David Crossman said, “At a time of rapid growth and transition for the School, we have maintained focus on our primary goal of serving the needs of our students. These are tremendous results, which reflect the careful and continuous hard work you all put into the activities of the School. Moments like this are ones to be proud of. They do not happen by accident but through consistent, combined and collaborative effort. Well done to all of you!”
