IC4Me 5 What is the IC4 Me study about?

What does IC4 Me stand for?

IC 4 Me stands for Interprofessional Collaboration for Multimorbidity.

What is the aim of the study?

The aim of the study is to find out:

Can Interprofessional Collaborative Practice be used as a potential solution to the challenge of increasing multimorbidity for public services?

We’ve broken this down into some smaller questions to make this easier and more manageable.

    • What are the experiences, knowledge and perspectives of interprofessional collaborative practice for multimorbidity, in:
      • professionals
      • those with lived experience
    • What are the specific enablers and barriers to the delivery of interprofessional collaborative practice, in the delivery of health and social care for people living with multimorbidity in Scotland?
    • How do the barriers and enablers compare and contrast by role and setting?

How will we find the answers to these questions?

    STAGE 1

    MIXED THINKING

We will review existing literature to help us in the development of research questions.

    STAGE 2

    QUALITATIVE DATA COLLECTION

To answer the first two questions we are going to carry out semi structured interviews.

    QUANTITIVE DATA COLLECTION

To answer the last question, we are going to carry out a survey.

    QUANTITIVE DATA COLLECTION

To answer the last question, we are going to carry out a survey.

    STAGE 3

    QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS

To answer the first two questions we are going to analyse the interview data using a technique called thematic analysis.

    QUANTITIVE ANALYSIS

To answer the last question we are going to analyse the survey data using descriptive statistics and checking for patterns in the answers by the respondent type and workplace.

    STAGE 4

    MIXED ANALYSIS

We are going to mix both the quantitative data and the qualitative data and analyse them together using techniques called merging and triangulation. These technique is part of a well established type of research called mixed methods.

    STAGE 5

    MIXED RESULTS & INTERPRETATION

Finally, we will compare the quantitative, qualitative and mixed results, and we will try to establish what the answers to our questions are, based on the information we have gathered.
