Community Engagement, Monitoring & Evaluation – Workshop Report

The Annual Community Engagement, Monitoring & Evaluation Workshop was held at the Malaika Beach Resort, Mwanza, Tanzania from 6-7 March, 2024.

There were 20 participants at the Workshop, all CE Coordinators from Malawi, Gabon, Mozambique, Uganda, TASK, UCTLI (South Africa), KCRI, IHI, NIMR-Mbeya and NIMR-Mwanza (Tanzania).

Facilitating at the workshop were Mhari Stewart (Berlin), Alphonce Liyoyo (KIDH), Erica Sanga (NIMR-Mwanza), Christine Laidson (NIMR-Mwanza), Stepanie Seidel (TB Alliance), Zani de Wit (UCTLI) and Julie Anderson (USTAN).

The purpose of this face-to-face workshop was to build capacity of Community Engagement teams on the principles of engagement in TB clinical trials, Good Participatory Practices (GPP) and Monitoring and Evaluation (ME).  Teams leading both Community Engagement and Capacity Development projects facilitated this 2-day workshop, where participants discussed best practices and the challenges and impact of Community Engagement programs in research.

The format of the workshop involved power point presentation/lecturing, brainstorming, discussions in small groups or big groups and presentation, bricks and balloon, journal club, using stickers/posters to facilitate the workshop. All participants actively participated in the activities in this interactive workshop which was very successful.
