Hellen Onyango is a research scientist and head of the Microbiology\/Parasitology units in the Medical Laboratory Science department at Jommo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya. Hellen has a background in medical laboratory sciences, holder of BSc in Medical Microbiology and an MSc in Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology. She has more than 10 years of experience in guiding and supporting undergraduate and post graduate students in various fields of research such as Microbiology, Parasitology, Hematology, Blood transfusion science and Mycology. \u00a0Her main research interests lie in infectious diseases and the one-health multi-disciplinary approach in combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR). She\u2019s passionate about how next-generation technologies (like SLIC – developed at St Andrews) can improve diagnostics, provide greater understandings of the trends and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance and reduce inappropriate antibiotic use.<\/p>\n
Currently, Hellen is a PhD student at the University of St Andrews and the coordinator of St Andrews Africa Health Research (StAAHR) network.<\/p>\n
