We are delighted to have received full funding from the UK Sepsis Trust<\/a> for the Improving Patient Care & Research on Sepsis Scotland (IPCReSS)<\/strong> study. This aims to determine, across an entire population, whether Scottish Electronic Medical Records (EMR) can be used to identify opportunities to diagnose sepsis earlier and that could, in turn, generate novel interventions.<\/p>\n This will involve new ways of analysing routinely collected datasets to assess the feasibility of diagnosing sepsis earlier. Example datasets include patient vital signs as well as laboratory data such as blood and culture results. If this is successful, we will then explore the feasibility of using these findings to predict those patients that are at highest risk of delayed diagnosis of sepsis, paving the way toward earlier intervention.<\/p>\n The duration of this exploratory study will take just over a year, and may inform subsequent work toward developing a national monitoring system \u2013 or registry \u2013 for sepsis. It will also inform a point of care alert system for sepsis and identify potential opportunities for trials of novel interventions.<\/p>\n
