Testimonials

Our Patient Partners are at the heart of medical education at St Andrews, bringing real-life experiences into the classroom. Their insights help shape the next generation of doctors, making a real impact on student learning. But don’t just take our word for it—here’s what our volunteers have to say about their experience with the programme!

Becoming a patient partner has proven to be the most rewarding, informative & engaging voluntary role that I’ve ever undertaken.

Since taking up my voluntary patient partner role everything has been wonderful. I’ve met new people, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed engaging with the medical students at history taking session. Everything is well organised and planned by Charlie, our excellent patient co-ordinator. I have enjoyed the well being workshop day and diversity courses organised for the patient partners too.

Connecting with young people and being so impressed with their intelligence and enthusiasm – it is very uplifting.

The most rewarding part of being a patient partner is being in the School of Medicine environment, and enjoying meeting the students, tutors, and other patient partners, while always being made to feel most welcome by our co-ordinator, Charlie.

I feel like I am helping turn a bad thing (chronic illness) into something good by helping educate next generation of medics.

I would unreservedly recommend the programme to them. It adds a whole new, really interesting dimension to life. Patient partners are always made to feel that their input is greatly valued, and that they are making a very special contribution to the medical student’s progress. There’s a tremendous feel-good factor about the whole experience.

The students are engaging, thoughtful and respectful. The opportunity to share your experiences both positive and negative is not to be missed.

It is a privilege to be part of this program and hopefully help students to develop their experience and interpersonal skills.

I absolutely love everything about the patient partner sessions, and always look forward so much to the next one!
