The retreat focused on building connections, sharing experiences and supporting development beyond individual research projects. The day began with activities designed to help students get to know the people behind the research before moving into our Alumni Stories session. Recent graduates Dr Amy Dorward and Dr Struan Loughlin, together with Dr Kathryn Steven and our Directors of Postgraduate Research, Dr Cicely Macnamara and Dr Morag Mansley, shared their experiences of navigating the next steps after a research degree, reflected on the different career pathways available, and offered the advice they wish they&#8217;d received during their own journeys. The afternoon encouraged students to reflect on the skills, relationships and professional behaviours that underpin a successful research degree, together with the role they play in building a positive and supportive PGR community. The day concluded with a wellbeing session, giving everyone the opportunity to explore the beautiful Cambo Gardens and enjoy a walk to the nearby beach before returning for coffee and cake.
