Led by <strong>Dr Samantha Pitt<\/strong>, the group engaged with scientists from across Scotland and Northern Ireland to discuss emerging discoveries and foster new collaborations in cardiovascular research.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The meeting provided an important platform for early career researchers to share their work. Several members of Dr Pitt\u2019s team presented talks and posters showcasing their findings.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7437\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7437\" style=\"width: 248px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7437\" src=\"https:\/\/medicine.st-andrews.ac.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2026\/03\/QHurst.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"248\" height=\"240\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7437\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Quenton Hurst delivering his talk.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Quenton Hurst<\/strong>, a final\u2011year PhD student, delivered a research talk titled <em>\u201cThe Role of MG23 in Dox Induced Cardiac Dysfunction.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Another final\u2011year PhD student <strong>Xueyu Guo, <\/strong>presented a poster titled, <em>\u201cAnalysis of TMEM109 rare genetic variation underlying cardiovascular diseases and traits among 500,000 individuals in the UK Biobank.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, third year PhD student, <strong>Richard Edel,<\/strong> presented <em>\u201cUnravelling the oligomerization and functional implications of the Ca\u00b2\u207a leak channel Mitsugumin23 in cardiac function using a novel Molecular Brightness approach.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s strong showing also included <strong>Jothi Kumar<\/strong>, another third\u2011year PhD student, who presented a poster titled <em>\u201cFunctional Heterogeneity in Adrenergic Signalling of hiPSC-Derived Cardiomyocytes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dr Pitt celebrated the team\u2019s contributions, noting the excitement of seeing such a vibrant St Andrews representation at a major national cardiovascular meeting.
