The World Health Organization (WHO) has\u00a0<\/span>launched<\/span><\/a>\u00a0its new Eye and Vision Care Training Access Platform (TAP) modules, a major global education initiative aimed at strengthening primary eye care capacity worldwide.\u00a0<\/span>Arclight<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is proud to feature throughout the training\u00a0resources\u00a0as a\u00a0key\u00a0low-cost\u00a0eye and ear examination\u00a0tool recommended for\u00a0all grades of health care workers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the new learning package, WHO has released a series of instructional videos and practical guides\u00a0demonstrating\u00a0essential eye-care skills using accessible technologies. The Arclight\u00a0device\u00a0appears across\u00a0several of these\u00a0materials, including the videos\u00a0<\/span>\u2018How to carry out a fundus reflex screen in children three years and younger\u2019<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>\u2018Eye health screen\u00a0for children\u2019<\/span><\/a>, where it is highlighted as a\u00a0practical and\u00a0affordable\u00a0yet effective\u00a0instrument for early detection of eye disease.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Designed specifically for use in low-resource settings, the Arclight\u2019s compact design, integrated solar charging and ease of use make it particularly suitable for primary eye care and community-based screening programmes,\u00a0a focus area of the WHO TAP curriculum.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr Andrew Blaikie<\/span><\/a>, ophthalmologist and clinical lead for the Arclight Project, reflected on its inclusion:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re\u00a0delighted that WHO has chosen to integrate the Arclight into its global training platform. The TAP modules will equip thousands of health workers with practical skills to detect eye conditions earlier and more effectively.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHaving the Arclight included reflects its strong scientific evidence base and existing widespread adoption with over 50,000 devices distributed globally in collaboration with all the world\u2019s major eye care NGOs and training institutions. Inclusion in the WHO training modules underscores its value as an easy-to-use, affordable tool that can make quality comprehensive eye care accessible anywhere in the world.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The TAP modules are freely available through\u00a0<\/span>WHO\u2019s online learning platforms<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and will support efforts to reduce preventable blindness by improving early detection and referral in communities worldwide.\u00a0In 2026 the Arclight Project will be releasing its new universal eye and ear training resources available on a\u00a0mobile phone-based application to further support implementation of primary eye and ear care in resource-poor regions.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
