{"id":5552,"date":"2021-11-18T16:23:50","date_gmt":"2021-11-18T16:23:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/med.st-andrews.ac.uk\/medicine\/?p=5552"},"modified":"2021-11-18T16:23:50","modified_gmt":"2021-11-18T16:23:50","slug":"launch-of-academic-intersectionality-mentoring-in-medical-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medicine.st-andrews.ac.uk\/news\/launch-of-academic-intersectionality-mentoring-in-medical-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Launch of Academic Intersectionality Mentoring in Medical Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Academic Intersectionality Mentoring in Medical Schools scheme (AIMMS) is a new national initiative that aims to support the career development of women from\u00a0Black,\u00a0Asian,\u00a0and ethnic minority backgrounds\u00a0towards equal and authentic leadership in academic medicine and health sciences.\u202f\u00a0The School of Medicine is a founding member, along with eight other UK medical schools and the Academy of Medical Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>In the first phase, the aim is to\u202fconnect\u202fwomen from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds through a\u202fmentoring\u202for peer support\u202fpartnership.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Director of Inclusion for the school, Dr John Winpenny said \u201cI am grateful to our very own Dr Jane Illes who has been involved in this initiative since its inception.
