{"id":4708,"date":"2019-02-15T15:51:06","date_gmt":"2019-02-15T15:51:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medicine.st-andrews.ac.uk\/?p=4708"},"modified":"2019-02-15T15:51:06","modified_gmt":"2019-02-15T15:51:06","slug":"young-archaeological-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medicine.st-andrews.ac.uk\/news\/young-archaeological-club\/","title":{"rendered":"Young Archaeological Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Enis Cezayirli and Dr Iris Cezayirli made a very welcome contribution to the Young Archaeological <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4710 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/med.st-andrews.ac.uk\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2019\/02\/IMG_0151_DxO-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>Club on the 22<sup>nd<\/sup> of December by helping identify a range of human remains which were excavated by the children of the Young Archaeological Club.\u00a0 Due to there being a significant amount of fragmented remains and a number of animal remains their help in identifying them was much appreciated.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4709\" src=\"http:\/\/med.st-andrews.ac.uk\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2019\/02\/P1130011_DxO-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The remains were excavated at Dunfermline Abbey where the children are digging down around 60cm to map buried gravestones.\u00a0 The remains found during the search for hidden gravestones are cleaned, inspected for any abnormality then weighed.\u00a0 This will give some indication of the age, an idea of some of the diseases and health of the people buried there and the bone mass in the soil which can estimate how many people are in that part of the Abbey.
