{"id":4484,"date":"2018-08-06T14:50:31","date_gmt":"2018-08-06T13:50:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medicine.st-andrews.ac.uk\/?p=4484"},"modified":"2018-08-06T14:50:31","modified_gmt":"2018-08-06T13:50:31","slug":"sutton-trust-summer-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medicine.st-andrews.ac.uk\/news\/sutton-trust-summer-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Sutton Trust Summer School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The School of Medicine&#8217;s Sutton Trust Summer School sessions were held between the 2nd and 6th of July.\u00a0 The staff who participated included Henry Rae, Alun Hughes,\u00a0 Rachel Davies, Fiona Cooke, Robert Humphreys, Bernie O&#8217;Hare, Robert Scully, and Swati Arya.\u00a0 The sessions were on various medical related subjects including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experiments to identify concentrations in a solution<\/li>\n<li>Reaction time and reflexes<\/li>\n<li>Multitasking and how your reaction time is adversely affected<\/li>\n<li>Bone structure<\/li>\n<li>Venepuncture<\/li>\n<li>Basic life support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Sutton Trust Summer School<\/h2>\n<p>Each year, the Admissions team organises a free week-long residential summer school intended for those studying anywhere in the UK who still have a year to complete at school.\u00a0 The aim is to demystify elite universities and to equip students with the knowledge and insight to make high-quality applications to top universities.<\/p>\n<p>During the week, participants take part in a varied programme of academic and social activities designed to give insight into what university study would be like. Students will live in a university hall of residence and attend academic sessions in two subject areas of their choice.
