{"id":3634,"date":"2017-04-06T16:55:07","date_gmt":"2017-04-06T15:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medicine.st-andrews.ac.uk\/?p=3634"},"modified":"2017-04-06T16:55:07","modified_gmt":"2017-04-06T15:55:07","slug":"st-andrews-surgical-conference-surgery-the-global-perspective","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medicine.st-andrews.ac.uk\/news\/st-andrews-surgical-conference-surgery-the-global-perspective\/","title":{"rendered":"St Andrews Surgical Conference- \u201cSURGERY: The Global Perspective\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3635 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/med.st-andrews.ac.uk\/medicine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2017\/04\/IMG_4339-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>On Saturday Feb 18<sup>th<\/sup>, the St Andrews Surgical Society welcomed delegates to the first ever Global Surgery conference in St Andrews.\u00a0 The day was a success, featuring keynote speaker Prof Eric Borgstein on pediatric surgery in Africa, Dr. Natasha Burley on \u201cEverest ER,\u201d and Miss Caris Grimes on research developments in humanitarian surgery.\u00a0 Lunchtime provided opportunities to browse several fantastic research posters by St Andrews medical students, with topics ranging from plastics to neurosurgery.\u00a0 In the afternoon, delegates were treated to interactive workshops- catheterisation, surgical scrub, wound closure and trauma C-spine.\u00a0 Overall, the day was a massive success.\u00a0 We would like to thank Dr Davies and Dr Harrison for judging the research, and all those involved in the organization.
