Pan-African biomarker study
Dr Wilber Sabiiti recently represented the University of St. Andrews at the 2016 European Respiratory Society (ERS) Conference in London UK. He presented the findings of his Pan-African biomarker study on using molecular technology to monitor tuberculosis (TB) treatment response in real-time. Developed in St. Andrews, the Molecular bacterial Assay was evaluated for its performance in Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania where it proved more efficient at monitoring TB than the traditional methods based on growing Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the laboratory. His presentation attracted more interest from researchers who to apply it in England, South Africa, Moldva and Japan.
