Excellence in Prosection: Marjorie England Dissection Prize
The University of St Andrews celebrated outstanding success at the Institute of Anatomical Sciences (IAS) Autumn Scientific Meeting 2026, held at the University of Liverpool from 2nd to 3rd September. Staff from the School of Medicine were recognised for their high‑quality anatomical teaching materials, with awards presented by Sarah Nicoll, Chair of IAS.
Two members of the St Andrews anatomy team were honoured in the Marjorie England Dissection Prize, a competition judged by a panel of experienced anatomists against published criteria, technical and intellectual complexity, and usefulness as a teaching aid. Entries span both human and veterinary anatomy, highlighting the breadth of anatomical education across the sector.
Our Prosector, Olly Kovaljova and Assistant Prosector, Humayra Bakar, were both awarded Merits for their entries:
Olly Kovaljova (Prosector) entry titled Trigeminal Nerve Divisions
Humayra Baker (Assistant Prosector) entry titled ”Superficial Muscles and Neurovascular Anatomyof the Face and Neck”
All St Andrews competition entries were created specifically to support medical teaching, helping students understand anatomical structures, complex regions, and the relationships between them. These resources will be incorporated into future teaching within the School of Medicine.
