ASME 2024: Dr O’Malley and Dr Veenhuizen outline promise and pitfalls of AI as a MedEd tool
Deputy Director of Teaching and Senior Lecturer Dr Andrew O’Malley and Honorary Lecturer Dr Miriam Veenhuizen presented at the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) Annual Scholarship Meeting from 10-12 July. Each presented on the use of AI in medical education, with Dr O’Malley discussing his work assessing the validity of AI-authored exam questions and Dr Veenhuizen outlining their recent findings on skin-tone bias in AI-generated medical images. Dr O’Malley also presented an update on ScotGEM career destinations. While all three talks were very well attended and received significant engagement, the conference also allowed Drs O’Malley and Veenhuizen the opportunity to establish valuable connections with other universities interested in collaboration.
