Research Ethics Committee

The School Ethics Committee (SEC) reviews research involving human participants (adults and children) as a subcommittee of the University Teaching and Research Ethics Committee (UTREC)

UTREC focuses on academic activity involving living human subjects, human tissues and other human samples, i.e. interviews and/or surveys that solicit personal information and/or canvas opinion, observational work, collection or study of human tissue or other body samples, collection of photographic images, observation and/or interaction with social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, blogs…). UTREC is a member of the Association for Research Ethics (AfRE).

Research and teaching involving the use of animals is not dealt with by the SEC and approval must instead be sought through the University Animal Welfare and Ethics Committee (AWEC)
