It is a 4-year course that has been commissioned by the Scottish Government with a specific remit to widen access to medicine and promote generalist careers in under-served, especially rural areas. The universities of St Andrews and Dundee are leading this development in conjunction with the University of Highlands and Islands, NHS Highland, NHS Dumfries & Galloway, NHS Tayside and NHS Fife – 40-50 fully funded medical student places are to commence in 2018.
As a Generalist Clinical Mentor you will work as a clinical tutor with around 6 students each week both in your host GP practice and at St Andrews medical school. You will have the option to work 2-4 GP clinical sessions in the host GP practice. You will be a self-motivated, practicing GP, working in or willing to work in approved ScotGEM teaching centres in Fife or in or around Dundee. In your application (if you are already a GP within the area) please include details of how you would incorporate the GCM teaching days with your current clinical commitments. Please use the section Statement in Support of Application to contain this information.
Interviews will take place on Tuesday 16th January 2018 at the School of Medicine, University of St Andrews, which will include a 5 minute presentation (topic to be confirmed).
